Event Notes

× This summer take a ride to right a wrong with Thelma

Meet Thelma Post (June Squibb), a spirited 93-year-old grandmother who falls victim to a phone scam. Believing she is helping her grandson, Thelma soon realises she's been conned and sets off on a daring mission across Los Angeles to recover what was stolen from her. Joined by her ageing friend (Richard Roundtree) and his trusty motorised scooter, Thelma's quest is filled with unexpected challenges and adventures. Along the way, she proves that age is just a number, showcasing her grit and determination as she confronts obstacles head-on.

Inspired by a real-life experience of director Josh Margolin's own grandmother, Thelma cleverly reimagines the action genre, casting an elderly woman as an unlikely hero. With infectious humour, the film highlights themes of ageing with dignity and agency, using age-appropriate yet exhilarating action sequences. This film is a must-watch for anyone looking for a story that blends heart, humour, and action in the most delightful way.

Currently rated as 99% Fresh on Rottentomatoes.com, critics rave: “Thelma” has everything you want in an action movie: chases, gunplay, a scene where the heroes slowly walk away during an explosion, near-misses, and a crowd-pleasing climax that made my audience cheer.” - Boston Globe
